This exhibit traces the evolution of fishing in America from the earliest fishing items dating to the Copper Culture 8,000 years ago, early native american items, the first fishing lures brought from Europe, the earliest manufactured fishing items made in America continuing through the numerous manufacturers exhibits and humorous displays of items made through the 1970s.

Bring your old fishing lures and other tackle to us in booth 523 for a free identification, valuation and cash.

Chauncey's Great Outdoor Radio Program - Booth 1701

Illinois Outdoor News Network and ESPN CHICAGO Radio AM1000

Over the years I have developed, created, assembled and brought to completion many events that have been enjoyed by thousands of young sportsman and their families.

Eight years ago we added to the fun of the sport show with Chauncey’s Great Outdoor World. We noticed that children coming to the show did not have much to do. We created a fishing pond and casting area where children could catch cut out fish and cast into the mouth of a cut out largemouth bass. We also placed prints of animal tracks like a deer, cougar, turkey and others and let the kids pretend they are that animal while walking in the prints.

Members of the Chicago Herpetological Society would come with their snakes, lizards, turtles and other creatures that young kids are able to hold, have photos taken and learn more about what makes the outdoors so cool.

We also work closely with the 6 nature centers of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County on Saturday and Sunday. Each center has a wide variety of nature related touchy feely things to experience with a naturalist from each nature center as well as educational activities so families learned together what’s right in their neighborhoods.
